The SABA Cup Photographic Competition.

 

The rules for the SABA Cup Photographic Competition is as follows:

 

1. This competition is open to any person who is a member in good standing of a club that is affiliated to S.A.B.A. or an individual member in good standing. (South African Bonsai Association)

 

Members of the SABA EXCO may not participate in the competition.

 

2. The planting can be in the form of single trees of any style, groups or saikei.

 

3. The planting must currently be alive and the trees and image must be real, not artificially enhanced or changed in any way.   This is to be verified by a club president or regional representative.

 

4. Material used must be any Exotic species.

 

5. Stock can be obtained from any source.  

 

6. The planting may be presented on a suitable stand or table.

 

7. Entry will be either in the form of a print photograph on paper of the front of the tree.   The print must be at least 16 x 21 cm (6 x 8 inches) in size and no bigger than 20 x 30 cm (8 x 12 inches). Or an entry can be entered by E-mail with a minimum size 500kb and a maximum size of 1Mb in Jpeg format. Entries will also be accepted on CD’s.

 

8. Complete information on the tree (species, height, years of training, origin of pot, original designer and even a brief history of the tree.) and owner (contact details and possibly a short C.V.) must be submitted on the entry form.   

 

9. No more than two entries are permitted from each artist but each entry needs to be submitted on a separate entry form.

 

10. Previous winning entries (First, Second, Third) are not eligible for subsequent competitions.

 

11. The closing date for entries is 31 August 2010

 

12. Entries can be submitted to wiles@icon.co.za or posted to SABA P.O. Box 869 Irene 0062.

 

13. S.A.B.A. retains right to publish entries in newsletters, magazines and/or the web.   Entries will not be returned.

 

14. A panel of judges will be appointed by the S.A.B.A. executive and will include senior bonsai growers from around the country. The judges’ decision will be final and no correspondence will be entered into.

 

15. The owner of the planting will be awarded the prize, not the photographer.   The photographer will however be given credit for their work in the form of their name being associated with the image.

 

 

16. The winner will be announced and the floating trophy will be presented at a mini convention or full convention. The photographs entered into the competition will be displayed at the gathering.

 

17. Prize Details:

 

With the floating trophy there will be a prize of R1000 and an award certificate for the winner.

1st Runners-up R300 plus an award certificate.

2nd Runners-up R200 plus an award certificate

 

18. CONDITION OF HOLDING A COMPETITION.

 

The competition will only be held if a minimum of 12 individual entries are received.
