I get to do the nicest job on earth. I get money thrown at me to do research using bonsai. But I also have to do a little bit of work for it. I have to do a tiny bit of reading and research peer reviewed journals. I am spoilt even further, that i have access to ALL readings that your heart can desire. So, after spending 2 days in the Hluhluwe Imfolozi game reserve (yes, we did) on an academic ladies research retreat last week, I came back on Monday to start the formal writing up of my Bonsaichology paper for a journal. And LOOK what I found? Not difficult to find, on the Harvard Arboretum web, an article about our very own bonsai garden at the Stellenbosch University Botanical Garden!
If you are a bonsai buff and a history boffen and you are passionate about little trees (and you miss your ex-president, Willem Pretorius), have a read here or click on the picture.
Well done, Willem and his (I was told you call a group of bonsaiists a Propagation of bonsaiists- I like it!) of volunteers who look after these trees. Next time you are in Stellenbosch, please go visit!
With that - do not forget to book your spot at the Autumn Bonsai Festival in George! You can make online bookings at:
