June 2019 Newsletter

June 14, 2019

Dear Bonsai People,

The more we make progress, the more things can go wrong.  My iMac packed up and had to be fixed and it is only then that you realise how much you rely on technology! And then during a major N3 highway upgrade, SANRAL dug up the wifi cables and we have had problems ever since. Even though the undersea cables “land” in Mtunzini where I live, we are only joining the Fourth Revolution now by getting fibre. And no, it has not been connected yet!

That said: From all reports, the ABC5 Organising Committee & BRAT has been working very hard and I am sure you have seen all the links on Facebook, etc. Please book now to benefit from the Early Bird discounts.  Be sure to have all your New Talnet Entries and watch the SABA Facebook page for information from Hannes regarding the entries.

Everybody wanted to know about the Photo Competition and the SABA Calendar.  The competition will be relaunched at ABC5, so get those photographs ready.

At ABC5, Life Time Achiever Awards will be handed out as normal.  Please send your nominations to me,  carollhermann@gmail.com, I will forward it to the committee. The ones received in 2018 will be eligible for 2019 as well.

Terence would like to remind you that the “SABA subs will become due on the 1st of July and payments are to be made to the new Standard bank Account as the FNB account will be closed. For those who have SABA registered as a beneficiary for EFT please replace this with the new details. SABA will not be responsible to follow up on payments made to the FNB account and this will remain your responsibility to recover. Your registration will only be binding when payment is made to the SABA account. SABA will not be sending out accounts as we do not know your membership numbers and this notice will serve as an account.

Subscriptions are as follows:

Club members : R40 per member

Individual members : R100 per member

Bank account details :

Bank: Standard bank

Branch: Brandwag

Account name: South African bonsai association

Account No:  140313478

Branch Code 055534

To save on bank charges you are encouraged to make EFT payments rather than cash deposit".

As stated at the 2017 Convention in PE, I was only available as President for 1 term. I will not be available for re-election, so please get your nominations in for SABA EXCO as well.  You can also send that to me on carollhermann@gmail.com. Due to work commitments, I will not be able to attend ABC5, but I will ensure it will be available at ABC5.

Kind regards,
