Bishopsford Bonsai Nursery and Cape Bonsai Kai will be hosting our annual World Bonsai Day, a fun day filled with bonsai-related activities. The event features:

Three guest speakers:

  • Richard Wright – Richard Wright is a passionate bonsai enthusiast and survivor of brain cancer, having overcome the disease four times over eight years. Despite losing his collection built up since 1997, he started again with renewed insights and determination. Richard loves sharing his passion for bonsai with others and is a global motivational speaker, MC, facilitator and coach, using these roles to help fund his bonsai addiction.

  • Neil Van Blerk – a very creative local bonsai artist with some beautiful unique bonsai display ideas

  • Wilmar Burger – Owner of Makhro Home and Garden

  • A collectables auction – auctioneer Gavin Fish

  • Bonsai competition tables

  • Goodie bag, lucky draws, prizes and a raffle

  • Refreshments

Registration

Registration is essential to facilitate catering and seating arrangements, deadline 4 May 2024.

Registration fee​ R250 if paid by 4 May 2024, thereafter R300

Numbers are limited.

Please bring cash for raffle tickets, proceeds to Cape Regional Association of Bonsai. Donations of items for the raffle are welcome.

The Bonsai competition will be divided into the following categories and we ask that each club enter at least one tree per category:

  • Under 5 years Bonsai experience

  • 5 to 10 years Bonsai experience

  • Over 10 years Bonsai experience

  • Seasonal display (flowering/winter silhouette/best of the season)

  • Out of the box/Innovative Bonsai

The best competition trees will be voted for by the delegates attending and certificates and a small prize will be awarded.

Auction

If you wish please bring along any collectable bonsai related items (such as pots, stands, suiseki) to sell – limited to 10 per person.  Please email bishopsfordbonsai@gmail.com by 4 May 2024 if you wish to sell at the auction and we will send you a form for completion. 10% of the sales will be donated to CRAB and donation of any item to be added to the raffle is required.

Refreshments:

Registration fee includes mid-morning and afternoon tea/coffee and a Boerewors roll at lunchtime.
